There is a bumper crop of poisonous mushrooms in our area as well as all of NY and the North East. These mushrooms are called Death Cap. A client’s dog recently died from eating one of these deadly mushrooms. These mushrooms smell and taste very sweet. Dogs are drawn to their sweet smell and taste. It is recommended that you remove all mushrooms from your yard. Be careful not to crush them as this will spread more spores and you will have more mushrooms growing. Pay attention to what your dog is sniffing when you are not at home.

The cold is a real danger to your dog or cat. Learn about other cold weather dangers for your dog. If you think your dog has hypothermia warm him SLOWLY and get him to the veterinarian as soon as possible. (If you try to warm too quickly to can push the cold blood to the inside of the body causing the organs to become too cold, resulting in the hypothermia becoming worse.)

If you think your dogs has frost bite warm the affected area SLOWLY and get him to a veterinarian. Frostbite is frozen tissue, the tissue may die and fall off if not treated immediately. Frostbitten skin looks pale and is cool to the touch. It may look burned after it thaws.
